Why’s everyone so obsessed with Rihanna’s new video?

July 8, 2015

The one thing that has really baffled me over the past few days since Rihanna released the music video for ‘Bitch Better Have My Money’ is how much people have been harping on about it. I really don’t understand the hype and the song itself is dreadful – a child could do better on an ELC keyboard. I’m sick to the back teeth of hearing numerous music ‘critics’ banging on about how ‘edgy‘ it is, one genuinely calling it a ‘visual kaleidoscope‘. I’ve heard some utter codswallop in my time, but that really takes the biscuit.

So why are people so obsessed with this complete shambles of a music video? Well, it has boobies in it, unnecessarily that is. (Hello? Half the population have boobies..what’s the big deal?) There’s blood in it *gasps*, there are scenes of violent torture in it *shrieks*, there’s a woman smoking weed (OMG!). All in all, it’s just a cliched nothingness of a music video. It’s completely ridiculous.

The number of people arguing over whether it’s ‘misogynistic’ or ‘feminist’, whether it’s referring to issues of race or not… They’re over-analysing every aspect of it – you’d think they were a bunch of English Literature teachers quabbling over the meaning of the words, how the sentence structure effects meaning. Bleugh! Does anybody care? It would be OK if the music itself was a nice sound, but instead it looks and sounds like something that’d be on a comedy sketch show.

Ri-Ri has so much power to make such amazing videos and music, and this is what she comes up with. A huge publicity stunt that everyone’s seen before. Shameful and disappointing.
